Lichfield's Green Belt is still threatened!

Posted on Monday 28th February 2011 00:00 by Keith

Latest 'Local Development Framework' plans issued by the Conservative majority on Lichfield District Council  for consultation, between December 19th 2010 and February 28th 2011, now allow for 550 extra houses to be built in South Lichfield between and 2026 instead of the previous figure of 1,685. The area they are designating for the 550 houses includes a significant amount of  Green Belt land.

Lichfield District Council themselves were campaigning to reduce the total housing allocation for the whole district (not just Lichfield City) they had been given by the previous Labour Government via directions to the West Midlands Regional Assembly. Following the election the coalition government have set about abolishing the Regional Assemblies and their targets. Lichfield District Council, however, are still maintaining an overall target of 8,000 dwellings.

Lichfield DC council policy needs to be challenged to make the majority of councillors change it!
