Local Liberal Democrats have chosen Jenny Pinkett as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Tamworth Constituency at the General Election on May 6th. Jenny has lived in the Tamworth area since 1979 and worked in three local High Schools as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator and most recently as an Inclusion Manager. She is currently The Chair of Governors of her local community primary school. She says: ”The Liberal Democrats will be fighting the General Election on four key principles, aimed at making life fairer for all. My campaign priorities will be fair taxes, a fair start for every child, fair, clean and local politics and a fair green economy, with jobs that last.
“People in Tamworth have been let down by their politicians and are understandably fed up and disillusioned. I will be campaigning with a clear message of hope that we can improve people’s lives, despite the gloom of the recession. We’ll introduce fair taxes and close loopholes exploited by the super-rich and ensure no-one pays tax on the first £10,000 of income. In Vince Cable we have the only potential Chancellor with a proper grasp of what is required – an end to casino banking, support for local business and investment in a green economy.
“Tamworth people are also frustrated that our current voting system distorts the will of the people: it is a disgrace that the thousands of people who believe that the Liberal Democrats have the right policies get no representation of their views. A fair voting system has to be at the heart of the reform of the way we are governed. People simply will not vote if thy don’t feel they get fair representation. Every Liberal Democrat vote will strengthen our voice in the next parliament. This is not a contest between the two failed old parties, and I will be asking voters to give their votes to support our priorities for real change.”
